Your Tropical Home in Paradise
Whether you’re an experienced surfer or just want to watch the pros, Playa Hermosa has some of the best consistent waves in Costa Rica. Surfboards and sandals are basically a lifestyle here. And if you’re into more activity, Hermosa’s unique combination of lush Mountains and Beaches provide endless trails to hike up and beaches to explore.

Local Entertainment & Fun
Playa Hermosa is less crowded than nearby Jaco, with a slower pace and friendlier locals. It’s a true “pura vida” experience.
Surfing and Swimming
Hermosa is a world-class surf break, so swimming at Hermosa Beach is not recommended. Rip tides are real here, so swim at your own risk. Jaco is much safer, but not as pristine. I recommend Playa Bejuco and Playa Esterillos Oeste for swimming and playing around in the water (< 20 min away). These are flat beaches which get deeper gradually. No big waves breaking on shore, and very safe. And these beaches are beautiful and rarely busy. (National holidays are much busier and Costa Ricans Love their holidays!)
Weekends in Hermosa and Jaco
Thursday, Friday, and Saturday nights are fun to socialize on the beach at Vida Hermosa, a hotel/restaurant right on the beach in Hermosa central. Music/DJ, drinks, locals, singles, couples, families…dogs on the beach, often times a surf contest right out in front before sunset.
Jaco has people walking about almost every night. Thursday, Friday, and Saturday nights are the busiest. Fun local scene with Americans and Euros all around. Bars come and go, so just look at the scene as you walk by.
Hermosa Sunsets
Every night with no rain, people are drawn to Hermosa Beach for sunset, usually around 5pm, as sunset ranges from a little after 5pm to 5:45pm depending on season.
My favorite sunset spots are the little streets directly north and directly south of the Hermosa soccer field.
